Lovely drive through Mulgoa and Wallacia twisting and winding past the old and new homes and passed livestock. You reach the front gate at the end of Bents Basin Road. 12pm Check in we arrived at 3pm. Drove straight down to the camp site as there is no need to buy a ticket from the office or the ticket machine. A note on the ticket machine told us to keep driving and purchase a $8 ticket from outside the kitchen and toilet block. Very big camp site. Wide variety of choice to set up for the night. Lots of fire pits if you don’t have one. As it was off peak the lower campground was closed. We chose a nice spot facing the wattle tree and set up camp. The slight breeze coming from over the mountain was sending the smell of the wattle around our camp from set up to pack up. A slight wall down the trail passed the lower campground and into the picnic area we saw kangaroos, kookaburras and ducks. The walk down the trial will surround you with the sweet crunch of gravel under your shoes and the beautiful trickle of the river. Down down the track it is slightly windy and comes to bigger rocks and boulders while sucluding you in the beautiful trees, a magnificent view of the lake and the rush of water through the rocks and into the lake. If you run out of kindeling or fire wood there is not a lack of fallen branches and pine branches. We went for a hunt behind the toilet block where there are a lovely row of pine trees. The nice change of having hot showers available was amazing. Being able to setting in for the night knowing there are flushable toilets and hot showers will be a relief for some. Waking up to a moo in the distance and the laugh of kookaburras cant help but make you smile. Getting out of the tent and seeing the pink and purple sky coming over the mountains start your day right. Check out was at 11am.
