Campsites

First things first, on a clear day, you really can see the ocean, so it does live up to its name, despite being quite a way inland. The facilities are sufficient, but could be improved. The camp kitchen has a good amount of table space to sit down and eat or hang out. There is double hot plate, kettle, toaster and mini fridge that can be used for free. There is also a BBQ, which is in fabulous condition, but you have to pay $1 to use it. There’s also a couple of spare power points there, which could be used for charging phones etc. There is a kitchen sink, but it’s not very deep and the tap is loose, making it hard to use. That would be an easy fix. The other thing that’s a bit disconcerting is the exposed pipe work above and sound of water (as it’s located underneath a toilet & shower block). That amenities block is the smaller of two on site, and is really insufficient. There is 1 x unisex toilet and 1 x unisex shower. There is also a disabled toilet and shower available, which requires paying a deposit at the office. Given the location of this block in relation to the renting and caravan sites, having just one toilet there is ridiculous. Also on the upper level of this block is a lovely deck, with lots of seating and a nice view, as well as a group room that can be hired. That’s a nice idea, but some of the space needed to go towards an extra toilet. Thankfully though, there is another amenities block. There’s about 5-6 showers and 5-6 toilets in the ladies, so I imagine the gents is about the same. In the ladies there is also a baby bathing area, which was a thoughtful inclusion. This block has a laundry as well, which is pay per use. The camp kitchen and both bathroom blocks were clean and well lit when we were there. For those of us who score a site near the entrance, we’re not too far from the road, so there is quite a bit of road noise. It’s made worse by the fact that the park is on a hill, so the cars make extra noise as they’re going up the hill. It really makes a dint in the serenity. However, the cabins and other sites don’t seem to get as much noise. Lastly, there’s a lovely deck looking out over the valley and with a small section looking out to the ocean. It’s a lovely spot to sit have a drink in the afternoon. There’s another BBQ down there too, also in great condition, but also requires $1 to use.
