Dropped into Payne’s Find on the way home from The Landor Race meet. The lure of a pub dinner was calling. We got a shock when asked to pay $10 a head, yep $40 two adults, two kids. We paid up along with a $10 deposit for the shower key and took a drive around the back to find nothing but in level gravel among a heap of miners donga’s and a road worker lay down area. This could only lead to a steady stream of miners vehicles coming and going at all hours and heaps of noise and dust. Decided that the money was better off in the back pocket, asked for our money back and drove south another 10 km to free camp out the back of a parking bay in the bush. People just can’t justify spending that sort of money on bull dust, keep driving campers and spend your money in other towns that value tourists and campers alike, not just the miners stream of cash. One star only for the fact you can get fuel and a feed if you can’t make it to Wubin or Mt Magnet.
Not much at Payne’s Find except the Roadhouse, some motel units and a camping area with powered sites. All dirt no lawn or concrete slabs. The amenities are spotless close by and the roadhouse serves... Read more
