This campsite is a great place to stay. It has a great crystal clear shallow beach which is great for kids. The campsites are a decent size too. But what ruined my experience was a group of very loud... Read more
A campsite in the national park where you register and pay at the booth by the entrance. There were plenty of people camping when we were there but the site was not crowded, however this was when the pandemic had stopped tourists from mainland Australia coming over. At other times there may be potential for crowding. - the campsite is close to the ruins of the Saltwater River convict settlement, which is worth a visit to get a glimpse into the origins of Tasmania’s European history - the campsite is on the shore of a bay with a small beach - toilets were clean and well-maintained. Recommendations: - bring water in case local sources are dry in hot periods - bring firewood and check bushfire rating and national parks advisory (NPWS website) for fire advice - no food shops in vicinity. Summary: A camping area close to Hobart, accessible by any vehicle, with historic features in vicinity. Good for families.
Beautiful campsite. Lots of room. Busy just after easter weekend but the site was large enough that we didn't feel crowded. Camped in a tent very comfortably. Relatively smooth dirt track in. No firewood collection allowed within the state reserve. Water available but should be boiled before drinking.
